Holiday forecasts show a significant increase in year-over-year spending amid a supply chain logjam that could spell trouble for retailers not prepared from the first mile through the last mile.

During the traditional peak holiday shopping season between November and December, CNBC reports that sales are expected to hit $800 billion, a 7% jump from 2020, according to Bain. In addition, Deloitte anticipates holiday retail sales climbing between 7% and 9%, topping the 5.8% increase reported in 2020.

That’s bound to add to the already tight carrier capacity. As a result, it is more important than ever that retailers and eCommerce shippers manage their last-mile logistics to ensure consumers get the delivery experience they expect, including getting their packages on time to make it to holiday parties.

While November and December are expected to be busy, and many consumers are planning to shop earlier than in past years, there will always be those last-minute shoppers that will need items shipped to them or the person receiving a gift.
